About my Name
Chautuileo is actually Chawtülew.
The name Chawtülew is a sacred bridge between what was and what is yet to be. In the tradition of the Pewenche, a name is a living essence that carries the breath of one’s lineage. For some Indigenous peoples, the meaning is personal and private. Many refer to me as Chautuileo, or Chau. Yet, the meaning of Chawtülew is beautiful. Therefore, I would like to share the story of my name.
Chawtülew is a name of action, a vibrant verb that describes a state of being in constant, rhythmic motion. It represents the energy of life that returns to its origin only to rise again with renewed strength. It is the eternal cycle of the Ancestral Return, the belief that ancestors who came before are never lost, but are actively reborn through my presence who walk the earth today.
In 2019, I received my name. To carry my name, I became a weaver of time. My mother explained it is the sacred work of returning to the ancestral wisdom of my ancestors with the pulse of the present moment. It is the sacred cycle of our ancestors returning through future generations. The past is not behind us, but flowing through us.
My name Chawtülew signifies that my rebirth is not a single event, but a continuous process of becoming. It is the promise that my ancestral lineage is unbreakable.
